The 2017 NCIA Cannabis Business Summit and Expo marks the one year anniversary of Medicine Box. A little over a year ago we were fortunate enough to lock down one of the last available booths at the expo in Oakland, California. It was our first event as Medicine Box and our first introduction to the cannabis industry. The event was the perfect ground to launch our brand and share our story with other cannabis entrepreneurs and enthusiasts.
When Medicine Box did our initial R & D, we knew we wanted to create a product that was different. We wanted to give patients a wider variety of edibles than just the traditional sweets. (We still love sweets, but we wanted to give people choices.) So we wanted to give people a low-sugar option.
We went. We saw. We conquered. And the SoCal cannabis community was epic.
Last week three of the Medicine Box tribe members – our founder and two brand managers – loaded up our wooden boxes with product, packed our flip flops and headed south. Our mission: Los Angeles for 4/20 week.
Today is the one-year anniversary of our blog. When we set up our website on April 20th, 2016, we had no idea what to expect. Over the past year, we’ve received an incredible amount of support from the cannabis community as we launched our brand and defined ourselves as a company.
The strength of women intentionally gathering is one that can’t be explained. And with the very intention being collaborative support and healing around cannabis as medicine, this is the kind of circle that can cause a huge shift in the shadowed elements of the cannabis movement.
This weeks behind the scene feature goes out to our packaging designer from across the country in Rhode Island! Manuel Cordeiro with Designer151 Studios has been a rockstar at meeting our requests from the earliest stages of concept through the entirety of production. Him and his team have a fresh perspective on developing cannabis packaging since they are a bit removed from the wild west hustle.
We are just arriving home after wrapping up a successful weekend at Hempcon. This year, the event took place in Sonoma County, just north of San Francisco, where the event has been held in years past.
For our next installment of Medicine Box Monday, where we give you a behind the scenes look at the many facets that contribute to who we are as a brand, we will delve into the world of cannabis testing and knowing your medicine. We believe this is an extremely important aspect of operating a cannabis business and want to share our practices.
There are so many different avenues that fear can play a role in when it comes to cannabis use. Whether you had a personal negative experience with the law, or lived through the decades of prohibition, my guess is, most of us have had a traumatic experience around use or cultivation of cannabis.
